
The history of the brand Cadillac starts in New England, where the future founder of the company Henry Leland worked as a mechanic at the weapon storage in Springfield during the Civil War. Later he became a constructor at one of the factories Browne & Sharpe. After that he moved to Detroit where he decided to start his own business and a company called Leland and Faulconer was founded. It was specialized in producing spare parts for autos as well as engines. One day Henry got an opportunity to help one of the companies which was about to become a bankrupt and that is how Cadillac appeared. In 1904 at NY auto show a first car by this brand was presented. It was called Model A.

In 1908 a very important event in the history of Cadillac took place. Corporation General Motors made an offer to buy the company. The following year an agreement was already signed and Cadillac became a part of the car producing giant. Just at once luxurious autos were presented to the public. Their main feature was refined body made of metal. Such cars were popular mostly with wealthy consumers such as film stars and politicians. During 1920-s a couple of new and important inventions took place. First of all in 1927 a special Section of Design and Color was created in General Motors. It was the turning point for the new wave of design in car industry. Another innovation from CadillaŃ was construction of the first transmission which had synchronizers which prevented from collision of cogwheels while switching gear. Automobiles by Cadillac turned out to be a symbol of American luxury and technical perfection.
